FANS called for Sven Goran Eriksson's head as England's World Cup plans became a shambles.

David Healy's 79th minute winner left the Swede stunned as Poland went FIVE points clear at the top of Group 6 following their win against Wales.

It was Northern Ireland's first victory over England in Belfast since 1927.

And Eriksson must now fear for his future after Saturday's unconvincing victory over Wales and the shocking 4-1 defeat in Denmark leading up to these qualifiers.

None of the England players seemed to know what their job was as Eriksson stuck to his 4-5-1 formation with Michael Owen left on his own up front.

Both Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard went missing in the centre of the park while Wayne Rooney pressed the self-destruct button yet again.

Rooney lost his head before half-time as his frustration boiled over.

Stuck out on the left wing, the Manchester United striker saw very little of the ball and got no change out of the referee when he tried to impose himself on the game.

A flash of temper saw the inevitable happen, a yellow card which rules him out of England's next game against Austria next month.

Skipper Beckham raced over to throw an arm around the teenage hothead but he was still seeing the red mist.

But that was all down to Lawrie Sanchez's brilliant tactics which worked a treat.

Whenever England had the ball they found nine green shirts in front of them.

David Beckham, Gerrard and Lampard seemed lost for ideas as the Irish fought for every ball as if their lives depended on it.

Owen had just one chance the whole game, an overhead kick which went harmlessly into the arms of Maik Taylor.

Beckham hit the bar with a free-kick but that was all Sven's men had to show for their pathetic efforts.

The only bright spark was Shaun Wright-Phillips' first-half display.

With Joe Cole dropped to allow Owen back in, Wright-Phillips was seen as the man to unlock the Irish defence.

His speed and trickery often bamboozled his markers but, just like Cole, the final ball was missing.

Eriksson opted to replace him with Cole just after the break but his performance flattered to deceive yet again.

So it was lef to Healy to put the icing on the cake with his decisive strike.

It came when Rio Ferdinand lost concentration as the rest of the backline were playing offside.

The Leeds striker drove into the area and blasted a crashing shot past Paul Robinson and into the far corner.

England's travelling support cried "Sack the Swede" as the Irish fans were sent into paradise.

Eriksson now needs to beat Austria and Poland to make sure of qualification - and to keep hold of his job.

Last night was something else! I actually found it amusing with about 15 minutes to go after they scored it was that much of a joke.

Time to go Sven, pack your bags and your birds and **** off to back to the land of Abba!
