* Martin Offiah: 1994, Wigan and Leeds, Challenge Cup Final The whole complexion of the 1994 Challenge Cup Final changed in the 12th minute. It happened when Wigan's Martin Offiah, from within 10 metres of his own tryline, swept past two defenders, outpaced Leeds stars Cummins and Schofield and rounded **** Alan Tait before scoring perhaps the greatest try ever seen at Wembley. Chris Joynt: 2000, St Helens v Bradford, Super League Qualifying Play-off With just 10 seconds to play, Bradford were on their way to the Grand Final when Saints skipper Chris Joynt, courtesy of a six-man passing movement over 90 metres, touched down for a last-gasp, winning try. * Mal Meninga: 1990, Great Britain v Australia, Second Test A 10-10 draw with 20 seconds remaining reflected Great Britain's efforts in this Old Trafford Ashes Test. But Kangaroos skipper Mal Meninga was not finished and, racing onto scrum-half Ricky Stuart's pass, he completed an 80-metre movement to clinch the match. * Jonathan Davies: 1994, Great Britain v Australia, First Test Pace, poise and balance. The traits of a great player were all on show when Wales' own Jonathan Davies raced round the Australian cover to help Great Britain to an 8-4 victory. Robbie Paul: His third try 1996, Bradford Bulls v St Helens, Challenge Cup Final Gifted Bradford scrum-half Robbie Paul was on the losing side. But his third try, when he swerved and sidestepped his way through St Helens' defences, gave him the first-ever hat-trick of tries at Wembley and the Lance Todd Trophy for the man-of-the-match. The 2nd test between Gb and Oz at Old Trafford was one of the greatest atmospheres I've witnessed at any sporting game! Seem to recall some fantastic State of Origin games and tries but don't have the details to hand. ...Oh and that try by gareth edwards in a friendly for that northern union side who didn't have a ground, the barbarians is always good to watch even if it did include a forward pass. Shame the BBC can't see fit to show tries that surpass it from the greatest code. Still that's the media for you, exaggerating half truths keeping the myth alive. |

Not that much of a fan of Rugby, as our Teacher in school used to never let us play football but only Rugby. He was an ex Wales international though, so I cant blame him. But Adrian, I think the best try I have seen is the Barbarians one against NZ. I never knew that it went forward, thanks for that information. I will keep a look out for the other tries mentioned here, I remember some of them. Rugby League I have always found superior to Union anyway, the players do seem more skillful. |

Mutter Chops, you should have had our sports teacher. Every time we played Rugby he used to join in. I was the only one brave enough to bring him down. Boy, I was a hero that day |

Our teacher wouldnt join in, just tell us to do the impossible. It was hard because a couple on the team were with the district team. He was mainly teaching them to get better while us footballers were hoping for the ball to turn out to be round. 2 years and it never happened. |
