Gretna have become the first club in British senior football to be promoted after their 1-0 win at Cowdenbeath.
Former Aberdeen midfielder Steve Tosh scored the only goal of the game at Central Park in the 30th minute.
The Black and Whites have lead the way in the Scottish Third Division throughout the campaign.
Gretna, who have been able to outspend some Scottish Premier League sides, now hold an unassailable 35-point lead over the third-placed Blue Brazil.
Carlisle millionaire businessman Brooks Mileson has ploughed money into the club to allow manager Rowan Alexander to build the team for their success this season.
The Raydale Park side joined the Scottish Football League after successfully applying to take the place of Clydebank in 2002 from the Unibond League in England.
Gretna had needed just one point to make sure of Second Division football for the first time.
Kenny Deuchar, the top scorer this season, made the opening for Tosh cutting the ball back from near the by-line.
Tosh met it first time to shoot high into the net.
Cowdenbeath, who had been thrashed 8-0 by Gretna at Central Park in November, gave them a much harder game on this occasion.
And they came close on a number of occasions through strikers Ryan McCallum and Darren Gribben but could not halt the Gretna bandwagon.
