Saturday April 2, 05:21 PM ...............................
Newcastle players Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer were sent off for fighting with each other during the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premiership. In extraordinary scenes, the two players traded blows in the centre of the pitch while the game continued around them. Newcastle finished the game with eight players after defender Steven Taylor was also dismissed for handling the ball on the goalline. |

| Post subject: | Police probe Bowyer and Dyer |
By Rob Stewart (Filed: 04/04/2005) Newcastle team-mates Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer face the risk of criminal prosecution following their mid-pitch fight, a shameful episode that the club's chairman, Freddy Shepherd, said yesterday was responsible for the worst day of his chairmanship. Officers from Northumbria Police will today begin preliminary investigations into the bust-up between the two players, who can already look forward to financial sanctions from their paymasters at St James' Park as well as Football Association suspensions. Bowyer, 28, has accepted the blame for the fracas that erupted in the 81st minute of Saturday's Premiership defeat to Aston Villa and he is expected to be fined a month's wages, while Dyer, 26, who was said to be "distraught", will probably be docked a week's wages. The pair have been summoned to a meeting with Shepherd and manager Graeme Souness at St James' Park at 9 am today and they could come into contact with detectives at the city-centre stadium. "Our officers will be liasing with the football club throughout the week to discuss the matter further and if they raise any issues we will review the situation," Northumbria Police communications supervisor Martin Murray said. "But at this moment no one has come forward to make an official complaint as regards the incident, that is any of the parties involved on the pitch or any third parties, and that could mean fans or witnesses." | Post subject: | It wasn't me, says Lee |
Mon, Apr 4, 2005 Megastar Following his on-pitch bust up with teammate Kieron Dyer, Lee Bowyer has taken the rap like a man - and blamed it on a woman. According to the Daily Star, the head-butting Premiership goon wouldn't have gone proper mental during the game with Villa if his model fiancee Kathleen Baker hadn't ditched him days before. Oh well, that's all right then, Lee. ll's forgiven, eh? An unnamed chum of the punchy footballer has spoken out in Bowyer's defence, saying he turned on fellow Toon Army-er Dyer because he's heartbroken. “He thought he could leave the pain behind him for 90 minutes by getting out on the pitch, but it was all too much for him,” claims the pal. “The frustration boiled over and Lee lost it. Unfortunately for Dyer, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.” As for the ex Kathleen, it seems she's now in the right place at the right time. |

| Post subject: | Newcastle will keep Dyer & Bowyer |
Monday, 4 April, 2005 Newcastle have confirmed Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer will both stay at the club despite fighting each other during the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday. But Bowyer has been fined the maximum six weeks' wages by the Magpies, thought to be around £200,000. The pair were sent off for brawling but shook hands after training on Monday and boss Graeme Souness revealed they have contested Dyer's dismissal. Souness said: "They've spoken over the weekend and have had a laugh about it." He added on the club's official website: "They appreciate the seriousness of the incident, but they were laughing because they get on very well together. "There has been an implication they have been at loggerheads for a long time, but this is completely without foundation." Full Article :BBC |

| Post subject: | Bowyer charged with violent conduct |
Tue Apr 5, 2005 LONDON (Reuters) - Newcastle United midfielder Lee Bowyer has been charged with violent conduct after his on-pitch fight with team mate Kieron Dyer in Saturday's Premier League game against Aston Villa. Bowyer and Dyer were sent off following the brawl and both faced automatic three-match bans. Bowyer was fined a club record six weeks' wages by Newcastle on Monday. Newcastle appealed against Dyer's red card but the Football Association (FA) rejected their claim for wrongful dismissal in a separate decision on Tuesday. Former England international Bowyer, 28, has until April 20 to respond to his charge, the FA said on its official website. The case is due to be heard by the FA's Disciplinary Commission on April 22. It has the option of extending Bowyer's ban and fining him. England international Dyer will serve a three-match ban with immediate effect although, like Bowyer, he will be free to play in Newcastle's UEFA Cup quarter-final tie with Sporting Lisbon. The first leg is at St James' Park on Thursday. Newcastle finished Saturday's 3-0 defeat by Aston Villa at St James' Park with eight men after defender Steven Taylor was also red-carded for handball. Bowyer and Dyer apologised straight after the match and shook hands in front of television cameras on Monday. © Reuters 2005. All Rights Reserved. |
