Off topic but you must be keen on pro cycling TF..I missed todays Liege-Bastogne-Liege but usually watch as many of the spring classics as I can...especially Paris Roubaix the hell of the north. |

Hey Westy, I used to be much more into it years ago (in the good old Kelly, Millar, Roche, Lemond, Vanderaerden days). I lost interest in the boring, mundane Indurain era (same with F1 and Schumacher
Looking forward to the Tour |

I found the Indurain years a bit boring too and after Lance winning so much I thought I'd get bored with that too- but far from it! I really hope he does it this year and retires unbeaten in le tour, it won't be easy though- Ullrich is hungry for another win. I used to ride on the road a fair bit too, but after coming a bit too close for comfort with a car I resorted to mountain biking over the south downs or down cycle paths to the sea. Good to see a fellow cycling fan on here! |

yeah, there's a still a few of us 'roadies' out here . Roads are generally far too dangerous now for serious road training. I'm lucky I'm blessed with loads of steep hills close to where I live (and pretty scenery which helps take the mind off the pain) and some of the lanes are still fairly quiet (just the potholes and loose stones to worry about - and thorns).
I hope Lance does it again this year too. The only thing I don't really like about the modern sport is the over-emphasis on le Tour. The UCI World Cup idea is pants - you can't compare cycling to downhill skiing or F1 as there are too many competitors. It's closest rival is probably horse-racing, with Paris-Roubaix as the Grand National and the Amstel Gold it's Cheltenham (in other words they should've left them as prestige events in their own right). That and the mandatory helmet-wearing signed the death knell on my interest in pro-cycling. |
