LONDON has got the 2012 Olympic Games within its grasp.

The winning city from the bidding line-up of London, Paris, New York, Madrid and Moscow will be announced in Singapore at 12.46pm our time today.

And with just hours to go to the big vote, it was believed that just TWO votes could separate Paris and London for the greatest prize in sport.

London’s odds have been slashed since arrival in Singapore of Premier Tony Blair and key bid supporters, including England soccer captain David Beckham.

Publicly, London bid chiefs insist Paris are favourites to win the race.

Sports Minister Richard Caborn said: "It is Paris’ to lose. They’re up there, as they have been throughout this race. But history shows the favourites don’t always come in."

London bid leader Seb Coe was battling to the finish line. He said: "The Games aren’t won in the last six years, six months or even six weeks. They are won in the last six hours."

I don't think London would be a good choice.

Yes lets hope so.

We are unable to organise the proverbial pee up in a brewery so I don't see how we can hold this. :-?

what a bunch of pessimists! I don't live in London but I hope this country gets to stage such an important event. As for the French making derogatory remarks about British food - what else can you say about a country that eats horses, snails and frogs' legs?

Well done the team, headed by Seb Coe (I loved him as a runner; not so sure about his politics!!).

I think they will do a brilliant job of organising the games. The eyes of the world will be on them, and the old British pride will kick in!

Also - anything that boosts the image of sport in this nation is a good thing for the kids. Maybe we'll start producing more world beaters as a result.

Yep, we'll be OK so long as we don't let anyone involved with the Millennium Dome, Wembley Stadium, Pickett's Lock anywhere near Stratford...
:D

the London win, is a disaster for the working class people of lOndon ,who struggle to pay their taxes.
Council tax, rates.....everything is going to go through the roof to fund this white elephant....and it's the likes of me- honest, law-abiding ,working people, who are going to have to pay for it.
It sickens me to the pit of my stomach.

i'm a huge sports fan , and i'm passionate about sport- whether i'm participating in it, or watching it.
But i don't want- and cannot afford to pay for the Olympics.

I can barely afford to live in London as it is- it's one of the most expensive places in the world to live- the extra money ,thats going to be needed to fund the Olympics (taxes from Joe Public- not the likes of Millionaire David Beckham who lives in Spain) is going to crucify alot of ordinary people....me included.
