{@} Today was opened the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki. :D The opening night ceremonies are on the air at the moment. ;) Wish that it won't rain too much during the Championships as it seems to rain at the moment! :-?

I always think the Worlds are better than the Olympics - at least you don't get all the political baggage. As for British medals, maybe gold for Paula Radcliffe if she can overcome yesterday's disappointment (9th in the 10k) but other than that not a great deal of gold hope. The best gold was the 4x400m in Tokyo - Kriss Akabusi storming to the line ahead of that bulky American bloke - that was amazing.

100m Final is on tonight, about 7.30pm, Justin Gatlin the man to beat after world record holder Asafa Powell pulled out because of injury.

For better info and results try the official IAAF website as the official Helsinki one's not particularly useful

Thanks for that IAAF link, tastyfish. There seems to be only sports in the air on TV and Radio this weekend, because Neste Rally Finland was driven past 4 days over here. Neste Rally or WRC. Finns did pretty well job over there!

I only watch if England are gonna win a medal, even though I'm drawn to that russian pole-vaulter for some reason

the 4x400 relay was awesome...as was the thoroughly gorgeous Roger Blacks silver that year.

Mr Invisible - he was running in Lane 9, did you see him? No, coz he was so quick... :D

Thank you Mr Gatlin, you just won me some money.

Have you seen the official finish line photo - apparently skis and skateboards are also allowed

it's to do with the way the pictures are produced - they are very thin strips of images taken across the finish line at very quick intervals (100th or 1000th of a second) so what you have in effect is a linear time-lapse image. If someone steps on the finish line an image of their foot will be taken several times and when sewn together gives the impression that they have a long-foot (or 'ski-foot' as its known).

Yep - I did see it, it came after Helsinki over here :-? And it's still really windy and raining. It's really bad weather to compete. But at the moment Estonian people are celebrating the gold medal of mens jewelling throwing :D
