| Post subject: | The FA Cup 2005-06 - contest |
At work I've started a contest based on The FA Cup. The idea is that you pick a team from an early stage of The FA Cup and watch them progress through towards Wembley (yes, Wembley!). If your team loses you adopt the team that beat yours. By the time we reach the final the person with the fewest defeats is the winner. If there aren't enough takers we can start from the Second Round Qualifying in a few weeks time, in which case I'll edit this thread and post up a new list. Rules: 1. Pick one team from the First Qualifying Round list below 2. If your team is beaten your new team is the one that beat yours. Your progress will then depend on the results of this team - yes, an element of luck is involved as you won't be able to choose this team but that's The FA Cup for you! 3. If your team is beaten in the final that counts as a defeat 4. Submit your selected team name to this thread no later than 3pm, Saturday 10th September. 5. If there are few takers (6 or less) we will start the contest again in a few weeks time. You will have the opportunity of changing your team. 6. By the time the Final ends on Saturday 13 May 2006 the player with the fewest defeats is declared the winner. 7. If you enter this competition late you will incur one defeat for each round missed 8. The winner's prize is nothing. Zilch, naught, zero, nada, sweet FA 9. There are other rules but I'll make them up as I go along 74. Everyone who enters must send me a PM saying how wonderful and great I am Declare your team in this thread below. But hurry - you only have until 3pm! 1 Oldham Town v Great Harwood Town 2 Wakefield-Emley v Blyth Spartans 3 Armthorpe Welfare v Mossley 4 Goole v Clitheroe 5 Billingham Synthonia v Retford United 6 Trafford v Yorkshire Amateur 7 Kendal Town v Witton Albion 8 Durham City v Hebburn Town 9 Runcorn FC Halton v Skelmersdale United 10 Curzon Ashton v Chester-Le-Street Town 11 Burscough v Ashton United 12 Pickering Town v Farsley Celtic 13 Cammell Laird v Radcliffe Borough 14 Stocksbridge PS v Ossett Town 15 Chorley v Bishop Auckland 16 Dunston FB v Thackley 17 Woodley Sports v Prescot Cables (at Hyde United FC) 18 Seaham Red Star v Consett 19 Bradford (Park Avenue) v Padiham 20 Marine v Cheadle Town 21 St Helens Town v Northallerton Town 22 Frickley Athletic v Chadderton 23 Gateshead v Warrington Town (Sun 11 Sep 3.00) 24 Guiseley v Salford City 25 Rossendale United v Billingham Town 26 Thornaby v West Auckland Town 27 Newcastle Blue Star v Whitby Town (at Whitby Town FC) 28 North Ferriby United v Brigg Town 29 Whitley Bay v Ramsbottom United 30 Willenhall Town v Malvern Town 31 Bedworth United v Solihull Borough 32 Stratford Town v Glapwell 33 Bromsgrove Rovers v Newcastle Town 34 Ilkeston Town v Coalville Town 35 Kidsgrove Athletic v Leamington 36 Staveley MW v Norton United 37 Halesowen Town v South Normanton Athletic 38 Leek Town v Long Eaton United 39 Westfields v Belper Town 40 Oadby Town v Oldbury United 41 Boldmere St Michaels v Nantwich Town 42 Matlock Town v Pegasus Juniors 43 Cradley Town v Eastwood Town 44 Grantham Town v Lincoln United 45 Chasetown v Gedling Town 46 AFC Telford United v Rugby Town 47 Corby Town v Shepshed Dynamo (Sun 11 Sep) (at Kettering Town FC) 48 Chesham United v Brackley Town 49 St Margaretsbury v Billericay Town 50 Northwood v March Town United 51 Rothwell Town v Wivenhoe Town 52 Welwyn Garden City v Beaconsfield SYCOB 53 Ruislip Manor v Redbridge 54 Wroxham v Diss Town 55 Woodford United v Harwich & Parkeston 56 East Thurrock United v Harrow Borough 57 Hampton & Richmond Borough v Witham Town 58 Halstead Town v Lowestoft Town 59 Aveley v Burnham Ramblers 60 Brentwood Town v Great Wakering Rovers 61 Barkingside v Maldon Town 62 Brook House v Clacton Town 63 Bedford Town v AFC Sudbury 64 AFC Hornchurch v Stansted 65 Cogenhoe United v Clapton 66 Heybridge Swifts v Arlesey Town 67 Stanway Rovers v Wealdstone 68 Chelmsford City v Harlow Town 69 Ipswich Wanderers v Hemel Hempstead Town 70 Potton United v Leyton 71 Hitchin Town v Waltham Forest 72 Enfield Town v Waltham Abbey 73 Bury Town v Boreham Wood 74 Northampton Spencer v Aylesbury United 75 Staines Town v Dunstable Town 76 Hendon v Biggleswade United 77 Southall v Mildenhall Town 78 Banbury United v Kings Lynn 79 Berkhamsted Town v Barton Rovers 80 Cheshunt v Braintree Town 81 Slough Town v Oxford City 82 Camberley Town v Epsom & Ewell 83 Cray Wanderers v Kingstonian 84 Fleet Town v Thatcham Town 85 Lordswood v AFC Totton 86 Didcot Town v Herne Bay 87 Bashley v Dover Athletic 88 Burgess Hill Town v Walton & Hersham 89 Abingdon United v Dulwich Hamlet 90 Banstead Athletic v Moneyfields 91 Three Bridges v Chipstead 92 Croydon Athletic v Ramsgate 93 Bedfont v Bromley 94 Horsham YMCA v Croydon 95 AFC Wimbledon v Ashford Town (Middx) 96 Ashford Town v Windsor & Eton 97 Maidstone United v Burnham 98 Folkestone Invicta v Egham Town 99 Chessington & Hook United v Hassocks 100 Wick v Worthing 101 Eastbourne Town v Gosport Borough 102 Margate v Cowes Sports 103 Dorking v Deal Town 104 Fisher Athletic v Tooting & Mitcham United 105 Chatham Town v Leatherhead 106 Metropolitan Police v Tunbridge Wells 107 Hastings United v Tonbridge Angels 108 Swindon Supermarine v Melksham Town 109 Fairford Town v Bishop's Cleeve 110 Liskeard Athletic v Bitton 111 Cirencester Town v Wimbourne Town 112 Bath City v Cinderford Town 113 Clevedon Town v Salisbury City 114 Taunton Town v Odd Down 115 Paulton Rovers v Barnstaple Town 116 Chippenham Town v Falmouth Town 117 Penzance v Bemerton Heath Harlequins + 118 Gloucester City v Christchurch 119 Tiverton Town v Evesham United 120 Yate Town v Bodmin Town 121 Merthyr Tydfil v St Blazey 122 Bournemouth v Mangotsfield United 123 Hamworthy United v Team Bath 124 Highworth Town v Elmore Good luck! |

Umm, not sure I understand the concept, but I'll go for Leatherhead
Exeter beat them on thw way to the 1981 quater-finals, where Spurs flukily beat us, Hoddle, Ardiles, who were they compared to Dick Forbes and Peter Hatch |

say Leatherhead won today and met Tunbridge Wells in the next round and were then beaten. You would now have one defeat and your new team is Tunbridge Wells. The idea is that you pick a team that could go a long way and thus avoid defeats. There is an element of luck in that you can't choose who beats your team and becomes your new team - you just hope they are a good! |
