| Post subject: | Girls bring glitz to cricket |
From: The Daily Telegraph By Ben Sharkey 12-10-2005 THEY may have been cricketers but there was the glitz and glamour of a Hollywood red carpet surrounding them in Sydney last night. The cream of world cricket gathered at the Four Season Hotel at the Rocks for the International Cricket Council's annual awards presentation. Freddie, Jacques share top award While the Ricky Ponting led Australians and the stars of the touring World XI team generated plenty of excitment, it was the women on their arms who stole the show. England Ashes hero Kevin Pietersen was joined by new girlfriend, UK-based American model Caprice. Batting ace Jacques Kallis arrived with girlfriend, former Miss South Africa Cindy Nel, while England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was accompanied by wife Rachel. Not to be outdone, the Australian girls made their mark, with Brett Lee's girlfriend Liz Kemp looking stunning. Nathan Bracken's wife, Haley, and Simon Katich's fiancee, Georgie Willis, also put up a strong challenge to the international contingent. Aussie spinner Shane Warne not surprisingly arrived without a partner, instead teaming up with West Indian great and legendary bachelor Brian Lara. With the awards being handed out last night, early winners included Australian Simon Taufel, named best umpire in the world for the second straight year. In the young gun department, England's Pietersen was named emerging player of the year and took out the one-day cricketer of the year award. |

Caprice is aptly named, for England and Pietersen have enjoyed a dramatic change in fortune. “The profile of each individual has lifted so much,” Pietersen said recently. “You can’t do anything without being noticed now.” Not that the shy Hampshire batsman has been shunning the limelight.
