Cricket Australia has delayed the announcement of the schedule for next year's Ashes series.
The fixtures were due to be released on Tuesday but this has been delayed in order to fine tune the programme.
The five Tests will have to be fitted in between the Champions Trophy, which ends in November, and the World Cup, which begins in March 2007.
"Cricket Australia is still hopeful to be able to confirm the programme in the short term," said a statement.
Speculation suggests the series will be squeezed into a six-week window.
That would leave England with a gruelling five Tests in 45 days as they look to win an Ashes series in Australia for the first time since 1987.
Geoff Boycott, who also criticised the schedule for the Pakistan series which England lost 2-0, said recently that the England and Wales Cricket Board should veto any such suggestions.
The former England batsman insisted: "It's daft to put it forward and it's stupid if we accept it. I hope the ECB have got the brains not to accept it."
