'PRINCE' Naseem Hamed was today jailed for 15 months for dangerous driving following a horrendous crash which left another driver with fractures to "every major bone in his body."

The former world featherwight champion smashed his £320,000 Mercedes McClaren sports car head-on at around 90mph into a Volkswagen Golf while overtaking on a busy country road.

The Golf was shunted backwards by the impact and its driver, 38-year-old Anthony Burgin, was critically injured.

Honorary Recorder of Sheffield, Judge Alan Goldsack QC, jailed the boxer and banned him from driving for four years.

At a packed Sheffield Crown Court, the judge said: "I have to balance the many features in this case; the aggravating features of hugely excessive speed, a blatantly dangerous manoeuvre, your persistent disregard of the speeding laws and the dreadful consequences of this offence for your victims against the mitigating features of a guilty plea, your good character in all respects other than motoring matters and the absence of some features present in many such cases - the most obvious being drink.

"I have no doubt the only possible sentence here is an immediate custodial sentence. It is far too serious for anything else."

The crash happened less than half a mile from Hamed's Sheffield home. He admitted the charge of dangerous driving.

Nas was ace at his peak. My favourite all time boxer. Might not have been the best, but always enjoyed his fights. But like many of the Frank Warren stable, he had a great career which avoided fighting anyone of any note. Until he lost.
