Anyone putting bets on this year? I never bet on the horses at any other time, but I always put something on the National |

I can't say I know much about it.. I only pick names that are significant
But oddly enough I usually win something |

I've never been inside a betting shop in my life. I wouldn't have a clue what to say or do. In fact I'd be quite frightened! |

I only go in once a year, and I do find it slightly intimidating but I reckon I have as much right to be in there as all those dodgy men gazing at screens |

In the past I have braved the bookies but only for the Grand National but I find it quite daunting. This year as the kids are older I let them pick a horse each £1 e/w each and placed the bet online which was very painless Cody (4) picked Numbersixvalverde but changed his mind and went for Rince Ri cos he liked the striped (got quite far but refused in the end)
Joe (5 1/2) picked Joes Edge for obvious reason (finsished 7th) Luke (nrly 9) picked HedgeHunter as he is a bit older and understood he had a better chance with one of the favourites (2nd) To make it up to £10 I picked Jack High who didn't last long and also picked Numbersixvalverde mainly due to the fact that Cody had picked it originally (Winner!!!) I had told the kids that if any of them won they could do what they like with their winning and if I won I woould share it so they are very happy
...mind you Cody is now saying that he had really wanted Numbersixvalverde all along

we used to always do it at home when we were growing up, same kind of thing.. we all picked a horse and had a small bet on it. I think I just kept up the tradition and I know my brothers do too..
