but his trainer's Linford Christie - who was suspended for 2 years following a positive drug test. If he feels that strongly why have Christie as his trainer? The whole issue of drugs in sport needs clarifying as it's a huge grey area and not as clear-cut as most people would seem to believe. Some banned substances are naturally occurring (testosterone, high red blood cell count, etc), so do you ban sugar and drinks and living at high altitude? What about banning food such as pasta as they clearly enhance performance. You're not gonna win a race eating Big Macs. Some substances occur in high street medecines so if you tested average Joe Bloggs with a cold or headache they'd probably fail a drug test. |

think the problem is that these athletes are given so many supplements etc that its hard to distinguish what's legal and what isn't legal. I believe there's that many people taking things, then its difficult to stay clean and stay left behind. I don't blame Campbell for being pi55ed off at losing two medals and I'd dread to think what my reaction would be if someone else caused me to lose the medals through no fault of my own. The only thing is at the back of my mind, I see Darren Campbell coming to the end of his career, and trying to make a bit of a name for himself as a squeaky clean "name" athlete setting himself up for a nice little job with the BBC. |
