Eleanor Simmonds became the youngest Briton to win a gold medal at either the Olympic Games or Paralympics with a stunning performance in Beijing in September. But the swimmer could not make it to London to receive her honour as our Paralympian of the Year today because…she was in a maths lesson.

If nothing else, that just sums the brilliance of this sensational Walsall-born star.
