Britain’s first female Olympic swimming champion in 48 years was a deserving winner at the Sportswomen of the Year awards

It is remarkable how in more than a fortnight a relative unknown can become a household name. Rebecca Adlington, the bubbly, Mansfield-born swimmer, achieved just that with a remarkable double success at the Olympic Games in Beijing last summer.
