BRITISH boxing legend Sir Henry Cooper has died at the age of 76. 'Our Enry', who once knocked down the great Cassius Clay, was one of boxing's most popular figures, both in and out of the ring. The Londoner was the first person to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award twice (1967 and 1970) and was one of only three two-time winners in the award's history. He was a British, European and Commonwealth heavyweight champion and was knighted in 2000. He died at his son's house in Oxted, Surrey, just two days before his 77th birthday. TheNorthernEcho |
