I read 'Goodbye Dearest Holly' last night - I am not sure what I think about it. :-? In some ways I felt that it was moving, yet in other ways I felt that it lacked some structure and was very disjointed. I know he wrote it for himself as events unfolded, and I am not sure that perhaps he should have kept it as a private journal rather than have it published. A lot of detail about the case was missing - obviously it is a very subjective account - but I would have liked to have read more factual evidence from the court case rather than just his feelings about it.

I finished the book feeling in two minds about it really. :-? I am glad I read it though, as it was one of those things I kept meaning to read and had not got round to. :D

I read it too Milly and agree totally.Having a daughter of the same age I found it very moving, but found the personal nature of it uneasy reading and felt at times I was reading somebody's private diary. It upset me in lots of places because of the subject matter, but I didnt find the style it was written in easy to read.
Nonetheless,horribly sad

About two years too late, I'm finally reading 'Brick Lane' (thanks to the public library) - and it's absolutely marvellous.

Anyone else on here read any Tony Hawks books? At the moment I'm reading Round Ireland With A Fridge - again. You will probably have to read it to understand the title!! But I think his books are great. Travel and humour rolled into one.

Yeah, I read 'Round Ireland With A Fridge' it's a scream made me lol at times - haven't read any other Tony Hawk's books, though.

Yesterday, I started reading 'No Name' by Wilkie Collins - really enjoying it, I imagine it would make a great TV period drama.

I am reading Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy. Enoying it far too much, nearly finished it. I don't know what to read next. Probably Pete Waterman's auto-biog. :-?

Jude the Obscure is quite possibly the darkest and bleakest book I've ever read but don't let that put you off, The subject matter in it's day was pretty unspeakable stuff and is shocking to me nowadays. But this is how it should be done. A proper classic.

 A book thread I can answer! except for the Jellyfish one :D

Lol, don't worry I wont let that put me off - that's just how I like my books. Bleak and dark. Why else would I be reading Pete Waterman's autobiography next?
Anyway, it's a bit late for something to put me off it now as there are only about three or four chapters left. I'm pretty sure i've just got past the worst part of the entire book, unless something really bad is yet to come. ${ Yeah, that was pretty shocking.

EDIT: Finished it. I was right, there wasn't anything worse to come than what I had read four or five chapters previous. Or, not anything that I wasn't expecting from about two chapters before the last.
And Arabella reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara.
