This is another of Richard and Judy's recommended books, but don't let that put you off.

The author spent 4 months living with a family in Afghanistan, and she tells their stories from times before, during and after the Taliban.

She gives an insight into a very different culture from ours. The lives of the women seem to be especially horrible.
