Just out of interest, did you consider the Beetle before you bought your Cooper?I only ask as in my experience people who like the mini seem to also like the Beetle.

I don't like them at all tbh. I test drove the TT but they ARE a beetle underneath! ()^

I must admit I like the styling of the Beetle but since I've never driven one I couldn't offer an opinion.

The TT is an awesome looking wee car-what does it drive like?

Don't know if you bought yet already...but these are afew suggestions for pratical (ish) and sporty (ish) cars that I would consider if i could insure and afford...

New A3....quite nice looking plenty of room... heard the diesels go quite well...

New golf.... great safety records, german built, look great...tad wheezy unless you get the 2.0....

3 series compact.... rear wheel drive.... loads of toys, look good reasonably sporty.

Focus ST170 / RS (depending on budget) Focus meant to be amazing to drive, but the RS looks tacky with those big alloys and funny bodykit... mental power through the front wheels also...

Alfa 147.... great looking, guessing the bigger engines go quite well... let down by poor build quality. The 147GTA is completly mental...Top gear wouldn't go near it with a barge pole....

If you could wait awhile the new BMW 1 series is coming out..doesn't look too bad but gets alot of great toys from its bigger brothers. Also rumors of a M2 which would include the M3's 3.2 engine but slightly detuned (pocekt rockets anyone??)

Honda Civic Type R... if you are after speed then this is the ticket.... they fly along!! Great looking cars aswell. Insurance group 18 though, and don't expect many miles to the gallon!

Well thats my 2 cents...let me know if i should jst shut up and go home already... hehe

Awesome choices Zeon - thanks for that. Here we go -

Sold my A4 and test drove a top-line A3 and was a bit disappointed. I don't even think it looks as good as the last one.

Just tested the new Golf GT diesel for the newpaper - loved it! Apart from the rump which looks like an overgrown Polo. Lovely car, not much character though - would prefer a Mk1 GTi.

Friends in Chicago have a 3-series compact (previous model) and I love it - my brother has a 3-series saloon and it's great too, if less roomy than my old A4.

Focus RS is awesome - also tested it for my motoring column. More civilised than an Impreza... if civilised is what you're looking for from a car like that!

147GTA has made it to the remaining few on my list. Not tracked one down to test drive yet, but they look fearsome and I'm sure they go. They look fantastic.

Not keen on the looks of the 5-dr 1-series - admittedly not seen one in the flesh yet.

Test drove a Civic-R and it does go. I would have bought it there and then but after the A4 it felt pretty flimsy.

What's wrong with the Seat Leon Cupra that it's not on your list??!!

Awesome list though - great minds and all that...

::lol:: well at the end of the day its youre choice!!

I've currently got my eye on a Toyota Starlet Turbo.. can get them Jap import only though.... i want one purely for entertainment value.... looks like a standard Starlet... but has a nice big turbo on it. ::lol:: Would have great fun at the lights against middle aged geezers in there family cars...!!

Have you visited this Site ever: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/motoring/roadtests/

Its got some good reviews etc on it...

Another car that may be worth looking at is the new 206GTi.... i've heard good things about them but they may be a tad small for what you're after...

As for the Focus RS, i've heard rumors that they are bringing out a costworth... which will be permant 4wd. That would make the RS seem obsolete. Problem is the new style focus is coming out this winter, so ford might put off releasing it until then....so your looking well over a year wait for it.... thats if they even get round to making it!!

Starlet Turbo is a brilliant wee car - there's an import in Orkney. Don't fance the 206Gti though - to much design and fussiness, especially around the tail. 205Gti on the other hand... ;)
