I'd give good odds that Mr Ratz' has never had a decent night of passion in his cold little life.

This isn't the first time on this Forum that I've mentioned that there's more to passion than the act of sexual intercourse. I've known many celibate people who have a passion for life, and who inspire others with their passion. Being celibate can free people to reach out to others (no double meaning intended). You can have a sexual liaison with someone - even a prolonged relationship - and it can be devoid of really deep feelings and meanings. On the other hand, you can have a relationship with someone which is not based on physical needs, and it can touch your soul, and it will be something that you will value for the rest of your life.

There are different kinds of 'love stories'....

Possibly 'Mr Ratz's life has been less 'cold' than the lives of many...

Blimey the more I hear about this pope the more I wonder.

He is anti any women in the church (misogynistic)
He sees Gays as evil sinners
He is anti contraception
He is anti abortion
He has no tolerance for other religions

At the age of 78 he has spent the last thirty odd years as a pure academic in the Vatican and is as far removed from real life as is possible to get. Did you know that he was in the Hitler youth (though he wasn’t a nazi) but he is old enough to have been in the war and a deserter?

Some people are saying he is a stop gap pope as he is the oldest elected since the 18th century, however given the high level of medical care he could easily live 20 odd years. Did you know he protected sex offender priest under his control.

Why they call him a conservative I have no idea, as he is condemning hundreds of thousands to painful deaths with his one view of no use of condoms or teachings of sexual safety.

Its such a shame that the Catholic hob knobs weren’t plugged into the real world enough to see that a new radical pope was required.

Faith and love of god is much easier without religion getting involved

I don't understand why they have elected someone who is 78 years old :-?
OK he seems to be in better health that JP11 but without meaning to sound unpleasent, it's fair to say he's not in the first flush of youth.
Are they only planning for a short palpacy while they get someone else who is younger ready to be the next pope.

I remember the fellow before JP11 only lasted 31 days, I'm assuming this fellow will last longer than that.

Exactly. He is one of those weird people - and i've known a fair few in my time, that are not part of 'reality'. They live in a bizarre private little world, their very perception/understanding of the world has almost totally faded into a twisted form of seeing things.

RE: no tolerance for other religions.
Ha, the only people who tolerate other religions are the non-religious. There is no such thing as a catholic who doesn't believe myself - nor anyone who doesn't belong to their cult, is not going to hell.
----

Oh well, with each word of darkness that the new pope utters, the 'god' that he believes in is ever less likely to allow mr ratz' beyond the big gates in the sky.

Its true.
EVERY one of the religious people I've ever met, whether they be islamic, christian (old style, current, or american happy clappy), jehovah...etc, are always the same with me.
When it comes down to the fundamental issue, they all say 'philip, if you don't come to my church, you're gonna go to hell'. Sometimes it takes months, even a few years for these people to say this to me, but they never fail to say it, given enough time.
---

Pope Ratz (or should i call him Benny), would sure as hell (no pun) believe that I'm off to the place of fire and brimstone. After all, I believe in tolerance and allowing people to stop having babies.
---
Oh well, today Mr Pope was looking decidely frail...does'nt bode too well for him...2008 looks an awefully long time away.

Calrissian: Condemned by many religions people....but he'll have the last laugh.

Thursday April 21

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's top-selling daily Bild blasted its British counterparts on Thursday for what it saw as their disrespectful coverage of the new Pope and their focus on his brief membership of the Hitler Youth.

"'Hitler Youth' - English insult German Pope!" the paper titled its front page before listing headlines from British newspapers a day earlier announcing the election of conservative German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI.

The Sun newspaper -- Bild's nearest British equivalent -- headlined its front page on Wednesday: "From Hitler Youth to Papa Ratzi", while even the sober Daily Telegraph carried the title "'God's Rottweiler' is the new Pope".

Bild, which itself reported the election of the first German Pope in centuries with the triumphant headline "We are the Pope!", was shocked by the tone of the British coverage.

"It's disgraceful to reduce the German Pope on the day after his election to a member of the Hitler Youth," the paper said. "The British have done it. They are reporting on Benedict XVI with mockery and undisguised rage," it said.

The German media often reacts with bemusement to British newspapers' obsession with the Nazis and to their constant references to World War Two and Hitler when dealing with virtually any aspect of German life.

Many other European newspapers also reported Ratzinger's membership of the Hitler Youth, and quoted nicknames such as "Panzer Pope" and "Rottweiler" in reference to his reputation as a doctrinal hardliner, a fact Bild mentioned lower in its story.

But its special ire was directed at British media, although the Sun made clear in its reporting that the Hitler Youth was compulsory for boys of Ratzinger's age at the time.

"A new member seems to have slipped into your newsroom named Mr Devil," the paper's star columnist Franz Josef Wagner said in an open letter to Britain's tabloids. "Your headlines on the new German Pope stink of him, like sulphur and rotten eggs."

"Anyone reading you British popular newspapers must have thought Hitler had been made Pope."

In an interview published in book form almost a decade ago, Ratzinger says he was briefly forced to join the Nazi party's youth organisation as a schoolboy during World War Two but says his parents were firm anti-Nazis.

Bild carried a separate article on the historical background of the Hitler Youth, answering its own question "Were all Hitler Youth convinced Nazis?" with a decisive "No!".

Quote:
POPE Benedict XVI yesterday revealed how he prayed to God — asking NOT to be elected as the new pontiff.

He said he offered up his plea when it became clear that many of his fellow cardinals were voting for him.

German-born Benedict, 78, said: “At a certain point I prayed to God, ‘Please don’t do this to me.’ Evidently this time He didn’t listen to me.”

He told a group of German pilgrims he recalled saying to God: “You have younger, better, more enthusiastic and energetic candidates.”

Benedict, the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, added that he had hoped to spend his final years living peacefully and quietly.

He was interrupted several times during his audience with the pilgrims in Rome by their cheering and applause.

At one stage the crowd chanted: “Benedict is sent from God.”

Earlier the Pope apologised for arriving late for the audience with the Bavarian crowd.

He said a meeting with religious leaders had overrun, and joked: “The Germans are used to punctuality — but I’m already very Italian.”

The Pope also met Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams yesterday — warmly shaking his hand.

Dr Williams attended the Pope’s inauguration on Sunday. He is the first leader of the Church of England to do so.
