EVERY day, if you let it, something will irritate you. The women who moan about men being unreliable gits then drool over Russell Brand.
Kate Moss making more modelling money AFTER she was caught hoovering up half of Colombia.
Or machines which say "Your call is important to us" when they've put you on hold. That means they think the opposite.
While we squeeze out the last bits of summer, it's time to take a deep breath, smile and bear in mind there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful.
Here are 10:
1 SCOTLAND'S brave new Euro campaign starts today and there are six points for the taking against the Faroes and Lithuania. Especially with our answer to Marcello Lippi, Walter Smith, bossing the show.
2 JADE GOODY'S beauty salon is to close. Next time, Jade, invest in what you know. Sell tripe.
3 THAT whole "charging Keith Richards for smoking at Hampden" business has been quietly forgotten. Arrest Mick Jagger for his solo records or Ronnie Wood for his painting. But not Keef, and not for this.
4 YOU rarely see Cilla Black on the telly any more.
5 THE Ryder Cup proper starts this month. Look out for US amateur champ, Aberdeen's Richie Ramsay, in our 2010 team. And unlike the thing ITV screened last weekend, the Ryder Cup will not feature Ian Wright or Meat Loaf. Did you see Meat's swing? He's certainly no Dead Ringer for Davis Love.
6 JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE is bringing Sexy Back. The BBC is bringing Dangermouse back. At some stage, they'll have to bring Cremola Foam back.
7 THE English FA are still paying Sven Goran Eriksson £13,000 a day until he finds a new job. That looks about as far away as Fern Britton's nearest WeightWatchers class.
8 ENTOURAGE starts on British telly (ITV2) a week tomorrow. It's the best American telly show since The Sopranos. It's Sex And The City for boys. It's brilliant.
9 ANDY MURRAY has got further than Tim Henman at the US Open and Wimbledon.
10 IT'S ages since they put Gary Holt anywhere near the Scotland squad.
And if you want a bonus fact to put a smile on your face, here it is: After his stint in Edinburgh last weekend, Russell Brand has left Scotland.
