A zealous policeman reacted to the loss of a shuttlecock by investigating the person whose garden it landed in for theft.
The policeman has now been given 'advice' by senior officers over the way he investigated when two teenage girls lost a shuttlecock in a neighbour's garden.
The shuttlecock flew over a fence at a house in Soham, Cambridgeshire.
The owner told the girls she would throw it back if she found it.
But later a policeman arrived at her home and said he was investigating the theft of the shuttlecock.
'The officer has been given words of advice about the way he carried out the investigation,' said a police spokeswoman.
'We are trying to establish the chain of events.
'We haven't received a formal complaint from the neighbour whose garden the shuttlecock landed in. But if we do, we will investigate.'
