(And yet, I'm aware that paedophilia is one of the most difficult 'addictions' to 'cure'.)

The bottom line is that to hurt/abuse a child is heinous.

Yes but even the dodgy looking ones often go unchallenged. Like the couple in town that I met a few years ago. You knew something was wrong ,the atmosphere in the house wasn't right and he was just weird .But it later transpired that both parents were involved and they both got jailed.

There is a guy in the Church my mother attends who was jailed in the 1960's for something he did with a girl. We don't exactly what he did but anybody who knows him uses the same name instantly to describe him. He is under constant watch as he is around children a lot and it's obvious he enjoys being around them. And they enjoy being around him .There are only a few people including the parents and the minister who know of his past. As far as anybody knows he hasn't re-offended in the last 40 years but there is always that doubt of the unknown about what has gone undetected. The local residents are also quick to report anything they think is out of place. But nobody can watch a known offender 24/7.
This guy has temptation there a little too often and yes his conscience telling him that he shouldn't do somethings in certain ways doesn't appear to be there at times and those times things have been said but as I said above there hasn't been any serious complaints regarding his actions. I'm sure he knows the level to which people are watching his moves. And I'm sure everybody is hoping that he doesn't do anything but they are still putting temptation his way and if anything does happen there will be lots of questions asked considering his past is known.
