Pub quiz nights are under threat from a new Government stealth tax, the Conservatives have warned.

They claim guidance for tax inspectors reveals plans to impose higher business rates on "friendly" pubs which support activities like quizzes and darts.

Shadow local government secretary Eric Pickles said fears about soaring tax bills could see landlords across the country cancelling such events.
