A 17-year-old former pupil shot dead at least 11 people, nine of them pupils, and wounded several others at a school in the southern German town of Winnenden near Stuttgart, police said on Wednesday.
The youth, who attended the school until last year, fled to the town center and remains at large. More than 1,000 police with helicopters and sniffer dogs are hunting him and large parts of the town have been cordoned off. Drivers have been told not pick up hikers
