Shropshire people are being urged to have the “jab” as flu levels begin to rise across the county. Health experts are seeing two main strains this winter.
One is the more common strain of flu which occurs most years but there are also cases of the H1N1 virus — last year’s swine flu. The vaccine, being given to “at risk’ groups by GPs, will protect against both.
Everyone aged 65 and over is routinely offered the jab, as are younger people with long-term conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, multiple scl- erosis, serious kidney and liver disease.
But for the first time the “at risk” group also includes all pregnant women.
