Now that is a VERY GOOD quality stream. You normally get crappy streams where half of the screen moves, or it's blurry in places, but this is very good indeed.

Just a note.. it appears the CBS server cuts people off every 10-15 minutes. All you need to do though is just reclick the link and it'll back up again.

I don't blame them, since some people will leave it streaming all day, even though they not watching it !

*have you noticed how sometimes, when they take a break, you can listen in on what the newscasters are saying whilst its advert time (adverts are blocked on the stream, and its just a blank screen)?

Don't those fools know that the people watching online hear everything during the adverts ? lol I was hearing the weather lady complement the newscasters on their makeup earlier etc....

As for Florida, they are looking at probably 6-18 inches of rain..maybe a bit more.

White House asks coastal residents to heed hurricane warnings

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - The White House on Saturday asked residents along Louisiana's southeastern coast to heed authorities' advice to evacuate as Hurricane Katrina headed for landfall.

President Bush, vacationing at his ranch, was being regularly updated about the storm, which is expected to hit land early Monday, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency continue to coordinate with state authorities in Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, and have prepositioned supplies in areas expected to be affected, he said.

Authorities told residents of low-lying coastal communities to head for higher ground. The storm was expected to strengthen as it crosses the Gulf of Mexico and could become a Category 4 hurricane with wind of at least 131 mph.

"We urge residents in the areas that could be impacted to follow the recommendations of local authorities," McClellan said.

New Orleans...
The USA's most dangerous place. If NO is directly hit...we're talking about the death of 250,000-500,000 people - and thats even 'if' some people obey the evac.

There are a great many articles on the 'New Orleans disaster'. It is well known about, and everyone is agreed that with rising sea levels the whole area is going to become uninhabitable (even if its lucky enough to avoid the 'doomsday storm').

Worse case scenario
A few hundred thousand residents die, the entire area is under 50-100ft of water, and NO is 'given back to the sea'. As it is, there remains a lot of uncertainty in where Katrina will go. New Orleans has been lucky for decades, everyone is now wondering if it will be lucky one more time.

Cat'5, steady winds of 160mph, gusting 200mph (yeah, CRAZY).

Anyone still in the city has 6-8hrs to get out, otherwise they are going to die. There is no excuse for blame, either get out....or die.

anyone with any sense would have got out on Friday evening.

Within 6 hours or so.....it'll be too late.

The 'refuge' shelters located within the city are about a safe as sitting in a bucket of gasoline in a furnace. 'If' the superdome is blown to pieces...there gonna be some serious argument over the decision to send people to a structure that is barely above sea level.

By midnight tonight...we'll know for sure...what is going to happen. At present...its looking like the apocalypse for New Orleans.

Not sure i would want to ride out this storm at the superbowl, i know its designed to survive Hurrican winds, but if an inner eye vortex of upwards 200 miles an hour will rip its rood off and pull the structure apart

if the superdome structure fails...you're looking at 50,000 exposed to a shooting gallery of projectiles travelling at 125-175mph for a few hours.

Very few would survive.
When I heard they'd have 'last resort refuges' within the target zone, I just sighed. You know, the red cross and other aid organisations refuse to get involved...since they know anyone in that area is in dire danger.

It the structure does hold intact, -it'll probably still be flooded on the ground floor, no power, no food/water, no hope of rescue until Wed-Friday..ohh... and no sanitation.

Utter hell.
