A 30-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy are reported to be in a serious condition at Scarborough Hospital after being rescued from strong seas.
An RAF helicopter and two lifeboats were still searching for a 13-year-old girl hours after the alarm was raised.

The victims are all believed to be members of the same family.

They were believed to have been swept out to sea after a large wave hit them as they strolled along the foreshore at Scarborough Bay on Sunday.

Post subject:  Mother and child die in sea tragedy

Sunday March 13, 09:22 PM :ITN

A mother and child who were rescued from the sea have died in hospital, police said. A third child is missing, feared dead in Scarborough's North Bay.

A huge air and sea search was launched just after 4pm after the mother and her two children and another adult were swept into the sea off the North Yorkshire coastal resort.

The tragic news came as a search continued for a father and 13-year-old daughter who went missing from a boat at around 3pm on Loch Lomond in Scotland.

The girl's 15-year-old sister raised the alarm after she was discovered in the rubber dinghy by two anglers. She told them her father and sister had fallen overboard.

this has happened within view of my office window - very tragic indeed but when high spring tides are as they are in this hostile area of the coast and children are standing on a slipway, these things do happen unfortunately.

they weren't strolling along the beach as the media are reporting it :-?

very sad indeed
