FORGET Becks and Owen, a new team has been picked to stray at Wembley.

Sheep will be used to keep the pitch at the new £757million stadium in 'mint' condition.

Their grazing will toughen the turf's roots when it is not being regularly used. Trials on pitches in Australia have already proved successful.

Players have had less allergic reactions because the natural fertiliser of droppings has reduced the need for chemicals.

Sheep from nearby Brent City Farm will make their Wembley debuts ahead of the first game, the 2006 Cup final.

And they have a new kit - a St George's Cross marking.

Wembley National Stadium Ltd said: "It's based on methods going back centuries. We are not being taken for fools."
