| Post subject: | Relief as missing teenager found |
Sunday, 3 April, 2005 BBC The grandmother of teenager Kirsty Chapman, who triggered a massive police hunt when she went missing, has spoken of her relief. The 16-year-old disappeared while walking her grandparents' dog in Plymouth on Thursday. Kirsty, from Cornwall, was found on Saturday - two days after she vanished - although police have not revealed where the teenager was spotted. Carol Gregory, 58, says the ordeal has been "complete hell". She says she does not yet know what happened to Kirsty, but has heard rumours she was with a group of girls. Up to 100 officers were involved in the search for the teenager and the police helicopter was used to survey the area. During the inquiry, officers had investigated reports she knew a 50-year-old man through the internet. The teenager, from Coad's Green near Launceston, is being questioned by specially-trained police, who say they would be looking for "evidence of any offences". A police spokesman said: "Kirsty has been located safe and well. Her parents and grandparents have been advised. "As part of the ongoing investigation, Kirsty is currently being spoken to by specially trained police officers, to establish her whereabouts over the last 48 hours." Kirsty, who is a student at Duchy College, Callington, frequently visited her grandparents in Plymouth and had been staying with them for several days before she went missing. She set off with their dog, a white poodle named Marcia, from their home in Berkshire Drive at about 1615 BST on Thursday and was due home at 1700 BST. After she was reported missing to police, a member of the public found the dog on its own in nearby Pasley Street, less than 500m from her grandparents' home. |
