Charles Kennedy and his wife Sarah have spoken of their "absolute delight" after the birth of their son.
Mrs Kennedy gave birth to Donald James, who weighed six pounds, nine ounces, at 0014 BST at St Thomas' hospital, London. Both are said to be doing well.

Tony Blair and Tory leader Michael Howard were quick to offer their congratulations to their colleague.

The party had been due to launch its manifesto but that was postponed after Mrs Kennedy entered hospital on Monday.

Labour leader Tony Blair said: "I just wish them well and we all wish them well. It is a particular joy when you have your first baby."

For the Tories, Michael Howard said: "It is wonderful news. I send them my warmest congratulations."

In their statement Mr and Mrs Kennedy said: "It is wonderful for us both and we are extremely grateful for the superb clinical and midwifery support which we have received."
