A two-year-old girl has been praised for feeding her father sugar as he lost consciousness during an attack brought on by diabetes.

The swift actions of Charlie Lambell prevented her dad Daniel, 20, from slipping into a coma. He suffers from type one diabetes which can cause hypoglycaemic attacks and usually relies on wife Karen to help when his glucose levels drop.

Daniel, who lives in Leicester, suffered an attack while babysitting Charlie as his wife enjoyed a night out. Amazingly, the toddler knew exactly what to do and fetched a bag of sugar from the pantry to feed to her dad as he lay on the floor.

He said: "There was no way I could do anything to help myself, so if it wasn't for Charlie, I would have gone into a coma and been like that until Karen came home, which is really dangerous.

"All I remember is being upstairs and feeling funny. Then I came round and I was in the living room and Charlie was giving me sugar. She's daddy's little hero."

Mrs Lambell said: "Daniel rang me at 7pm and said Charlie had been feeding him sugar to bring him around. Not only that, she also prepared him a bowl of cereal for when he came round, because Daniel has to take carbohydrates after sugar."

The 20-year-old described her daughter as amazing, saying: "You don't expect a two-year-old to do something like that. She said to me 'daddy was poorly, but I looked after him'."
