Tue 31 May 2005 Scotsman A PIONEERING phone hotline, which will allow school staff instant access to report verbal abuse and physical assaults by pupils, is being piloted in the north-east of Scotland. The line is being tested over the next four weeks in 20 schools in Aberdeenshire and is expected to be rolled out across the area later this year. Teachers will be able to log details of pupil indiscipline online and to contact trained staff instantly instead of having to fill in a form. Hamish Vernal, Aberdeenshire's council's director of education and recreation, said yesterday it was hoped that the new system would lead to a reduction in violent incidents in the classroom. "This should reassure staff that by recording the violent incident, they would no longer feel isolated in dealing with that incident," he said. |
