Post subject:  Don't Know What To Think About This??

Have just been on the bbc website, and have been trawling through the news section. I came across this article about downloading music. It turns out that a 14 year old girls mother is being sued for about £2,500, i think maybe they are going a bit too far with this. They haven't even give the mother the chance to talk to her child to tell her it's wrong. If after she had talked to her child, and she continued to download, then fair enough. IMO i think they are being a bit unfair with this, they should at least given the mother a chance to tell her child not to download music again. She was even on GMTV telling her story, but this obviously hasn't warmed the cold hearts of the RIAA. I just hope she has the money to pay for the fine, i bet the insanely rich RIAA won't be losing any sleep over this

I would have thought the websites offering the downloads should be regulated more and pressure should be put on them... or they should be shut down full stop if the service they are offering is illegal to users.

Online law is very scant but who can possibly lay down the law and enforce it?

Well, the websites let you download a P2P program, and then you download things off them. I dunno, i can't see how the P2P makers can be accountable for this really. I mean, they are making a program, but it's not their fault if you go and place "certain things" in them. I never download music anyway, or films for that matter, other things i do though. If that's the case, then they might as well charge the people who make DVD-R's, the people who make CD-R's, the people who make CD-RW's, the people who make DVD-+RW's, i could go on. I think they are just making someone a scapegoat here, I.E the people who are making the programs. And as for the little girl, not giving her a second chance, they should be bloody well ashamed of themselves. I don't think there will be that many people who will be able to pull out £2,500 just like that.

But surely those sites offering the downloads should be to blame? I don't know how it all works but it looks like they're the ones who should be regulated. But if you start on them, you then have to start on all the sites offering child porn and any type of download and it would be a pandora's box.

Well i have no problem whatsoever about them starting on sites that offer child porn, porn should be with what it originally started out as, with adults. But anyway, as far as that news article goes, i think they are going or maybe going after the P2P sites, because people are starting to share a lot of music online, and movies. These programs have nothing to do with the sites really, yes you download them off the sites, but after that, they are on their own so to speak.
