It's the BBC's policy to try & report facts & facts only, & to keep speculation to a minimum. Difficult to do in such a confusing situation.

It's also to prevent any hysteria in what is undoubtedly a major incident

 This is getting out of hand now. Why do people think that they have the right to harm innocent civilians who have NOTHING to do with them! What kind of evil arrogance is this that they think they have the right to do this? An Al Queda cell has claimed responsibility on an Islamic Website apparently.

To be honest, I think this type of attack would have happened whether or not security was focussed on G8. How hard is it for someone to walk onto a bus/train, plant a device and walk off again?

Its sickening.

it's chaotic up here, in N. London -where i am.

Heard the Edgware blast, and since then all i've heard is wailing sirens, and the noise of choppers overhead.

No way out of London at the mo.

The security services have stopped many attacks, most of which we never hear about.
The problem is getting enough evidence on these people so they can be put away. And the do-gooders such as George Galloway, Tony Benn & the wishy-washy liberals who write for rags like The Guardian want the government to fight al Qaeda with one hand behind their backs.

The vast majority of muslims in this country want al Qaeda smashed as well.

I suppose the security services took their eye off the ball with G8 in Scotland - but they(the terrorists) were going to get through one day.

Absolutely spot on. I met a guy called Osama recently and his hatred of Al Qaeda and terrorism in general was obsessive. His friends call him Sam (unsurprisingly)

but as he put it 'It's making us Muslims look bad'

I've never in my life met a Muslim who condones this terrorism and I work and have worked with people from all over the world.

I live and work in Central London. Was at work when the news started coming through. Decided to go home, and luckily I can walk home from my office. It was chaotic - no buses, no tubes, loads of people in taxis and cars or on the streets.

Hope anyone here who's in London is safe. I'm going nowhere today, going to stay with my partner and the cat and thank God I'm safe.

Al Qaeda have claimed responsibility, and chillingly, they have said,
Italy and Denmark are next.

this is horrible.

It's weird, cos I'm miles away in Somerset and you can only watch the telly....and say a few prayers. Its the feeling of knowing that it was all calculatedly planned which makes me feel horrible.

My sentiments exactly. I'm glad you, your partner and cat are ok Bunny. Lets hope that everyone on here from London is ok and that the casualty list doesn't get much bigger. :-(
