Post subject:  London transport system in chaos

The explosions in central London threw the capital's transport network into chaos.

The entire Tube system, used by three millions people a day, was suspended while bus services in the centre of London also ceased.

King's Cross, Euston and Liverpool Street main line stations were closed, with operations to injured people being carried out on the Liverpool Street concourse.

While some main line services continued to run into London, other companies were halting trains short of the capital.

Euston Road, Marylebone Road and Aldgate one-way system were among roads closed in the centre of London. Motoring organisations described the heart of the capital as "totally gridlocked".

With the Underground services suspended, airlines at Heathrow warned that flights could be delayed with flight crews and passengers likely to have difficulty reaching the west London airport.

A transport source said: "The Underground is likely to be shut for many hours."

Following the bus explosion, a Transport for London (TfL) spokesman said: "Checks are being undertaken on all buses that remain in service and at all bus garages. We are advising passengers not to go into central London."

The London to Paris and Brussels Channel Tunnel high-speed train company Eurostar was continuing services into Waterloo station in the capital.

Airlines at Heathrow airport were operating normally, but it was expected that the events in central London could lead to some flight disruption.

He was ten foot away from the blast and is very shocked.Another friend has been told not to leave his office and if necessary stay there all night.
According to BBc there have been explosions at 6 tube stations, and one bus..All public transport in London has been suspended and Swindon and Brighton stations have been evacuated.
No official stats for casualties(possibly to prevent panic) tho Reuters claim over 90 people were injured at Aldgate.all hospitals in SE have been closed to non-emergency cases to.Its very worrying as its difficult to make calls into cenral London atm :-?

I just hope the casualities are kept to a minimum & those responsible are caught.

It's also terrible to hear about the deaths of those innocents caught up in the violence in Iraq.

Post subject:  GROUP CLAIMS ATTACKS

................................. Image

A terror group linked to al Qaeda has claimed it carried out a series of terror attacks on London that have left a number of people dead and hundreds injured.

Two London hospital have reported a total of 185 wounded after a series of blasts hit locations across the city on buses and Tube stations.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said there was evidence of explosives at at least one of the six sites.

Scotland Yard has denied reports they were warned of an attack by Israel minutes before the blasts.

Two people have been confirmed dead and at least 90 people injured in the explosion at Aldgate Station.

Prime Minister Tony Blair is returning to London from the G8 Summit in Scotland.

He said: "It's particularly barbaric that these attacks are designed to coincide with the G8 summit.

"It's important however that those engaged in terrorism realise that our determination to defend our values and way of life is greater than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people."

Witness, Angie, saw the bus explode in Russell Square. She said: "There were a whole lot of people around the bus. Next thing I was on the floor and there were a lot of people on me.

"I thought I was going to be crushed. The bus was ripped out at the back. It must have been a bomb."

The entire Tube network has been shut down following the blasts at Edgware Road, Kings Cross, Liverpool Street, Russell Square, Aldgate, Moorgate and Leicester Square.

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from King's Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umbrellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around King's Cross covered in soot.
