As a foot note ESA are using 4:2:2 again for the transmission so if you are able keep an eye on the APTN channel on 10 East. Or the links in the other posts for NASA TV though I'd expect bandwidth problems as the demand could be rather high.

My DVD recorder will have it's timer set to record the APTN channel around those times.

One for the next mission - if you have a scanner ,when the shuttle is approaching , docking ,undocking etc from ISS and there is a pass over the UK monitor 121.750 MHz Narrow Band FM as this is the Shuttle Air to Air channel and you should heard comms between the Shuttle and ISS.

Also on a more regular basis checkout 145.800MHz ISS Voice / Data for Amateur Radio. If remember correctly it's TX on 145.825 and RX on 145.800 all frequencies are +/- Doppler shift (will be either slightly higher or lower depending on if the ISS is coming towards your location or going away). I've had data relayed via the ISS many times in the past but never had a voice contact.

Its 07.00 and we are on the 30 min countdown till break of orbit is befun ..

Note the times that were on the ESA site were GMT (BST -1).
So original coverage was to be 0930 - 1000 BST.

Add 1h30 to those times for a 2nd chance landing at 1122.

The APTN channel is already showing NASA TV.
My recorder is set between 1030 and 1200 so hopefully I'll get it all.

There is still the possibility of rain showers developing around the 2nd landing time.

As I expected the first landing attempt is delayed. They'll have another go in 90mins - for a 11.15 touchdown.

However, its quite likely they won't be landing for a while yet. Its quite unusual for a shuttle to land on its first attempt. Not only do they need good weather in florida, but a few of the contingency sites too.

As someone who knows the names of every mission...since the mid 80s, who has watched every launch, eva, and landing...this is pretty standard stuff to me.
A delay was more likely than not, it would be odd if they did get down on their first scheduled opportunity.

*I'm laughing my ass off at the BBC/and general media who are obviously following it on the basis that 'if it might bleed, it should lead'. They couldn't give a damn about the previous 50+ landings, and when this lands just fine, you can bet they won't be devoting a single second to space coverage to future broadcasts.

Today would be a good day to land, but there is no hurry...they can easily last until Wednesday...when they can always land at White Sands, New Mexico. They could do that now, but its a hassle (a costs a fortune) transporting the shuttle back to KSC by Jumbo Jet.

Yep ,first change skipped. At this stage they are going with the second but failing that Edwards is perfect for landing which will be the third attempt.

APTN has been broadcasting NASA tv since the early hours. Shame NASA wouldn't even consider providing Europe with NASA tv and they have had requests over the years by a number of groups. All they did was to move it to a satellite which can't be received in most of Europe.
