I know there are sensible people out there that will just go in a pub, get tipsy, and then come out. But, then you also will have the idiots who will go in, get DRUNK, and then come out and start trouble. You will have people out on the streets at about 4:20am when they should be in bed asleep. It's okay the people trying to get these laws into motion saying that people will just go in to have a drink and act sensibly, but i bet they won't live anywhere that's even the slightest bit rough. And god help those people who do live anywhere that has a bad reputation, they can look forward to windows being put out and god knows what else happening. Like i said, there will be some sensible people out there, but there will also be the idiots as well, who won't have 1 brain cell between them causing trouble whilst being drunk. This seems to me like the government just wanting to make more money off alcohol (i.e tax). http://www.itv.com/news/index_2118632.html |

No, I disagree. I think our drinking laws are archaic and ancient. It's precisely because we have restricted drinking times that we have drunks and fights. I sometimes go out on 'all day' benders (from about 12pm to 2am) and I have to say by the evening we're more or less chilled out and mellow and wanting to go home to bed. At the moment you have a peak at 11pm and then another at 2 or 3am. At this time there is a massive queue for clubs or taxis or food. And lots of drunk people unleashed at the same time - perfect recipe for trouble. I think if you relaxed the opening hours yes, there will be a lot of trouble as people will make the most of it to begin with, but I think it would settle down after a few months. It should also be a tad safer on the streets, with more people around at all times throughout the night. There is trouble in a lot of places where laws are relaxed a little but arguably there is just as much trouble in smaller places where pubs and clubs still close at 11pm or 2am. |

I agree with zx50 on this one, I can't believe they are bringing this law in, it is madness. They say they want to make it more like it is in places like Italy and France. Well I'm sorry but if you go over there it's clear to see their attitudes to drinking are very different to those in the UK. People there are happy to go out for something to eat and maybe have a couple of drinks, people there do not simply go out to get legless. Here however people this it's mighty clever to drink tons of lager then puke up in some unsuspecting persons garden. |

Exactly grimfandango, i know people have their own view on things, but for rough estates where drinking goes on, this will be a nightmare for the other residents. What about people who live virtually next to pubs and clubs, they'll be hearing people going in and coming out of the pubs and clubs. I'm dreading this happening, and if this goes wrong, then i hope the people who thought up this idea are blasted for it. |

Binge drinking is encouraged because people feel they have to get as much in their bodies whilst they can buy it, so I think it's a good idea to extend the drinking hours. I agree this countries drinking culture is quite different (in a negative way) to most others, so we have to something about it, lets try this. |
