Yep, you're right Mol. its all there in the gospel of Matthew.
But I heard someone do a talk on this once and they spun it on its head - apparently when you turn the other cheek that is an act of peaceful defiance, because in Biblical times you could only slap someone round the face from a certain direction and if you turn your cheek away they can't hit you (sorry, it was a long time ago, cant remember the exact details)
basically a case for making a stand but peacefully, not looking for revenge.

if karma exists, why do bad people win the lottery?

every now and then you discover that a rapist or criminal has just scooped the jackpot, surely if karma existed they wouldn't stand a chance?

Yes but money and happiness do not bring contentment, like many it just gives people more complexes :D

I don't believe in natural justice. It makes no sense to me. Bad things happen to good people all the time and baby-killers (sorry) don't necessarily get sick and die afterwards.

My bf believes in 'natural justice' but then he's a Hindu so he's been raised to appreciate the nature of karma. I'm a (lapsed) Catholic with a passion for Buddhism - I spend every Sunday evening having dinner with the monks and nuns at the Buddhist centre and meditating with them but I can be a (verbally) vindictive witch when I feel confronted and I regret it each time. It doesn't happen often honest! I think I've only had 2 or 3 arguments this year and 2 of those were with fellow FM's. One was resolved and the other hangs in the balance.

I totally don't believe in natural justice tho! How can a rapist win the lottery when a Christian woman I work with was widowed at 35 with 5 children and works 2 jobs to support them? I don't think that natural justice exists.

Nobody said life was fair.we've all been dealt with different cards and have different experiences. When faced with adversity we have 2 choices,we can sit and wallow in self-pity or try and get over things, get on with life and hopefully become better for it.My own belief is what doesn't destroy me,makes me stronger..and exacting revenge on somebody is a waste of my time and energy.

True. The woman at work with the 5 children always puts such a positive spin on things, she's amazing.

she said that God knew her marriage would be short and so he gave her her children all at once (one a year) plus instead of complaining that she has to work two jobs she says that she's lucky bcz God gives her the strength to do that.

She's an inspiration and as you say Pikey, there are 2 choices, sit and wallow or get on with life

I'm not keen on the whole *eye for an eye* thing.

Online I've been known to seek revenge, but I've never been one for doing it in real life. In any case, it usually backfires on you big time.

The moral high ground is really much more dignified!! ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::

I voted that I didn't believe in it but there are some circumstances in which I feel it would be unavoidable. If someone hurt a member of my family I would definitely want to hurt them. Whether I would do it or not probably would depend on the seriousness of the situation. How many people left alone in a room with someone who had killed their child wouldn't want to kill them?

Yes,I have to agree there Ellie...though I'd hate to be wasting my time plotting revenge,I would have to seriously control myself in a situation like that.Is one of the reasons am findng my job so hard atm is one of my pupils is teasing my son and I find it very hard not to want to throttle this child and have to be so careful I dont do anything that could be construed as picking on him til the situation's resolved.
I was really talking in my replies about petty things and wanting to get your own back on somebody whos aggrieved you..but I'm quite sure none of us would want to be responsible for our actions if someone harmed our children
