No I don't believe in an eye for an eye, Bonzo. And pray to god on a daily basis that I never have to put my belief to the test. |

From my experience the revenge isn't really as sweet as you might think. Actually it has a great chance of turning to you. I believe in beeing the bigger person, I think it'll pay off in the end. And over time I hope everyone will get what's coming to them. So no, I don't believe in it. |

No neither do I. As the great man, Ghandi said - 'An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'. By all means defend yourself and your loved ones but taking revenge on another person just degrades you and shows that other person how much they affected you and so how much power they have over you and your emotions. Why would anyone want to empower the person who has hurt them like that? I don't agree with 'an eye for an eye'. *shakes head |

This, for people who don't know, is a phrase from the Bible. I think it's used twice in the Old Testament. Bit of background...it is used in Exodus to describe how a man should be punished if he injures a pregnant woman. The second time its used is in Deuteronomy to describe what should happen to a man who falsely accuses another man of a crime: he should receive the punishment that the accused man should have received. (hence an eye for an eye etc) People lived under a very strict set of laws then. In the New Testament, Jesus said "do not take revenge on someone who wrongs you." Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Ok, RE lesson over now. |

No must agree I don't do revenge...In my experience life has a funny habit of righting itself somehow and it all goes full circle. Its not to say I dont have a crafty snigger when that person gets their come-uppance though

I don't believe in an eye for an eye at all but I do believe that what goes around comes around. |

I'm not sure about loving my enemies though....I rarely fall out with peopl..I'm quite equable...but when I do it's serious.Though I don't want to plot their revenge,I do actually cross over the road to avoid sonebody in my village. |

Well if anyone harmed any of my family, they'd be dead. But that's why I'm a bloke and there's laws that would stop me doin it. It's when the laws, come down on the side of the criminal, they'd be trouble

I used to but now..... naaa the quest for revenge just breeds resentment and bitterness. Better to be the bigger person and let karma take it's course. |

Yep! My bf quit his well-paid job recently and had to take one that pays about half of what he used to earn bcz of racist cr*p from a manager there. If you knew him you'd know he's impossible to dislike! He loves everyone but this guy had a problem with him and kept making offensive statements. Anyway he eventually quit his job and refused to complain to anyone about it bcz he said karma will come back to them and it wasn't his place to make trouble. God he's just too nice! I was prepared to 'make trouble' on his behalf, I was fuming! but he just said that the other person would learn his lesson in life in time and he let it go.
Don't end the R.E lesson just yet TD! Didn't Jesus at some point actually verbally refute that we should take 'an eye for an eye'? Something about 'you've heard it said....but turn the other cheek/tell you to walk one mile so you walk two... I wouldn't turn the other cheek but then I wouldn't poke them in the eye either!

Good point indeed. Don't believe in the concept - but haven't been in a life or death situation. Don't believe in what goes around comes around either - not in one lifetime, anyway. Life's not fair - but most people are decent. |
