| Post subject: | Mixed results on exam pass rate |
Pupils in Glasgow account for the lowest exam pass rate in Scotland this year, according to Scottish Executive statistics. In East Renfrewshire 42% of pupils in fifth year passed three Highers, more than three times the number in Glasgow, which had the weakest results. East Dunbartonshire and Stirling, Aberdeenshire and Orkney were also in the top five for Higher results. The pass rate could rise when the results of appeals are known. East Renfrewshire also had the highest proportion of pupils passing five Standard Grade passes at general level or above, at 90%. FIFTH YEAR PUPILS PASSING THREE HIGHERS IN 2005 East Renfrewshire 42% East Dunbartonshire 32% Stirling 30% Aberdeenshire 29% Orkney 29% Glasgow 13% Glasgow again posted the lowest pass rate with 63% of pupils passing five exams at Standard Grade. Moray saw the biggest variation in Standard Grade results since last year with 5% fewer pupils passing five exams at general level or above. Overall, 22% of Scottish pupils passed three Highers and 76% passed five Standard Grades - in line with last year's results. BBC |
