A woman has been questioned by police after her three children were found living on their own.
The woman, who has not been named by police but comes from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, was being questioned on suspicion of child abandonment and neglect.
Police would say officially only that a woman had been arrested. But sources confirmed that the woman was the children's mother.
Earlier, police said the three children - girls aged 13 and eight, and a boy aged 10 - had been found in a house in Peterborough on Monday.
It was thought that they had been left on their own for about five days while their mother made a trip to Germany.
Police said the children were in good health and had been taken into care by social workers.
The spokeswoman said officers were alerted to the children by a member of the public.
