Two Moray factory workers remain seriously ill in hospital after being struck down by legionnaires disease.

Production remains shutdown at the world-famous Baxters food processing factory in Fochabers while investigations continue to establish the source of the outbreak.

Officials have spent the day trying to pin point the source of the legionaires outbreak affecting staff at the Fochabers food factory.

For the second day running the usually bustling Baxters plant was uncharacteristically quiet.

Production was shut down as the health and safety executive, NHS Grampian and Moray launched an investigation into the two cases of legionnaires disease.

The workers, a man and woman, continue to be treated in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for the bug, a type of pneumonia which can prove fatal in some cases.

In Aberdeen last night there was some better news for the company when they won the Northern Star Business Award for their performance in internationalising the firm, staff development and social responsiblity.

But it was clear that celebration was far from bosses minds.

Baxters say they've taken the decision to shut the plant over the weekend. But they're keen to stress the supply of their products has not been affected and goods continue to be sent overseas.
