Tickets for Edinburgh's flagship Hogmanay street party will be going on sale from Saturday morning.

The massive Princes Street party is expected to attract approximately 100,000 people from around the globe.

Music and entertainment will be spread over six live stages and will culminate in the famous fireworks display.

Briefs will be available in person on a first come, first served basis from the box office, or over the phone or internet from 1000 BST.

The city's Lord Provost, Lesley Hinds, urged those who were keen to join in the celebrations to be quick if they wanted to get passes for the party in Princes Street.

She said: "There is something really quite unique about the Royal Bank Street Party with 100,000 partygoers from all over the world welcoming the new year with music, dancing, hugs and kisses, all set against the magnificent backdrop of the castle.

"We anticipate that this allocation will be popular with residents and visitors so we advise people to act quickly as passes will be snapped up fast."

Last year the Scissor Sisters and Blondie topped the bill. Organisers will announce the line-up for the night in November.

Varied events

Unique Events puts on the Hogmanay celebrations for Edinburgh City Council and director Peter Irvine described them as the "best in the world".

He added: "There's nothing anywhere in the world like the atmosphere, setting and euphoria that is The Royal Bank of Scotland Street Party."

The party is the highlight of four days of celebrations, with events getting under way on Thursday 29 December with a torch-lit procession.

:puke: as I've said before - the worst thing about Hogmanay in my opinion. It just all seems so :puke: and my aunt and uncle managed to actually scar me for life a few years ago kissing on my sofa. Gads.
As somebody said today I'm 16 and 3/4s going on 5 and a 1/2

Hogmanay is great fun though. It would fall on a Saturday this year though, I'll be working :-( Was working in the afternoon last Hogmanay actually and it was so cool because they put 'Jessica - Sweet 16' at the bottom of all the tills @^@

Yes, got rather side tracked there. Basically, that party sounds like great fun and I want to go without the kissing!

GOOSEBERRY!!! That's it!!! Two of my friends were g/f and b/f but then they split up and now it's soooo obvious they're going to get back together. Another friend of mine has double free at the same time as then while I'm in a class and I was asking her what she'd been doing etc and we were desperately trying to remember what it's called when you're there but feel kind of out of it.

Thank you pikey!

Organisers have taken the wraps off the final line-up for Edinburgh's Hogmanay bash, which will start on 29 December.

A torchlight procession from Parliament Square to Calton Hill will be followed by a fireworks display.

The party on the big night will kick off with a candlelit concert at St Giles Cathedral.

Celebrations at the Royal Bank Street Party are being headlined by Scottish acts Texas, KT Tunstall and El Presidente.

A ceilidh at East Princes Street Gardens and Mound Square will be held to mark the beginning of 2006.

On 1 January there will be the chance to take part in the one o'clock run from Edinburgh Castle Esplanade or the Edinburgh Bicycle Triathlon at the Royal Commonwealth Pool and Holyrood Park.

The celebrations will also include the Night Afore International on 30 December, featuring a 150-strong human tower, 250 Catalan street theatre performers and a Catalan parade.

More than 100,000 revellers are expected to line the streets for the Hogmanay knees-up, which will include acts on four stages across the capital.

Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson said: "This year's Hogmanay celebrations prove that as the best small country in the world, Scotland puts on the biggest and best parties.

"Edinburgh's programme of events promises an explosion of cultural activity that reinforces Scotland's place as a modern, vibrant, forward-thinking country."

Lord Provost Lesley Hinds said: "There is no doubt that Edinburgh's Hogmanay brings a tremendous atmosphere to the city.

"It places Edinburgh and Scotland firmly on the international map."

She added: "This year's programme really is one of the most exciting and varied we have ever had.

"There really is something for everyone."

Last year thousands braved the cold of the capital to see legendary US act Blondie, led by singer Debbie Harry, and New York band the Scissor Sisters.

I want to go to that... those massive street parties always look amazing fun on the television but getting home could prove problematic!

There are usually lots of people around on Hogmanay anyway (that or we're away).
