Today there were few research results in the papers about being mother or becoming one at the first time in Scandinavia and in EU.

It's more common in Scandinavia to become a mother the first time in the age of 36 to 46 than having a first child in the ages of 18 to 25. In the Scandinavia problem is that women that have lower education are usually childless. Situation is different in Southern-Europe, Ireland, Germany and UK, where is more common that women that are childless are highly educated. Actually in Finland mothers have less children than they wish to have! Finnish mothers are working more commonly than mothers in French, Italy and UK. Especially mothers with higher education are working.

It's said in the article that Irish women 'makes babies' more than women in other EU countries and most of them have their babys under their 25's. Lowest number of children seems to be in families in Italy, Spain and Germany.

In Finland and in France about half of the parents that are having their first child are married. In Southern Europe it's more than a rule that getting married and having children belongs together in that order. In Scandinavia that's not a rule at all. And couples living together without being married is much more common these days than it used to be in every European country. The quality of living in families with children is better these days than it has been lately (last ten years), except in single-parent-families.

This research was published in Helsinki on this Tuesday.

Its getting more common here too.Mainly because of financial pressures I think. My aunt had her youngest at 47!!

I'd say that most of the older parents I know are professional folk...I find it kind of odd as a mother of a 14 year old seeing ladies older than me with their first child. In fact one of my colleagues made the classic blunder of asking a child if his gran was picking him up after school!

hmm..
well, with demographics as they are....Western society needs every baby it can get. So, babies for women in 40s are going to become almost 'normal' in the next 15 years or so.

Calrissian: how could he possibly afford a child anyway
