The head of an amusement park where 11 people were hurt, one seriously, during a fireworks display insisted the right safety measures were in place.
Spectators were watching an organised bonfire night event at Wicksteed Park, in Kettering, Northamptonshire, on Saturday night when a firework shot into the crowd.
The injured were standing behind the safety cordon when they were struck. They were taken to Kettering General Hospital for treatment, mainly for burns to the lower body.
Two children were detained at the hospital and a third child, a boy aged around 10, was transferred to a specialist burns unit with serious injuries, it was revealed. His condition was described as serious but stable.
Wicksteed Park managing director John Roberts said: "All available staff, including our first aid team and St John's ambulance, immediately attended the injured and ambulances were called. Six were in attendance plus one from St John Ambulance Brigade.
"Police, some of whom were already on site, supported our operational staff to ensure that our emergency plans were followed effectively. We understand three are still in hospital.
"We regularly host large events here at Wicksteed Park and this firework display is organised by one of the country's leading firework display companies, Kimbolton Fireworks.
"As with all our events, we had gone through a very thorough process of planning with the local authority and emergency services."
Mr Roberts said some 100 stewards were on hand to supervise the event and the safety cordon far exceeded the recommended minimum distance.
He insisted no-one breached the safety cordon.
