Nine staff have been sacked by Renfrewshire Council for inappropriate use of the internet and e-mail at work. Another three have been demoted, two have received written warnings and one case has yet to be concluded. The authority would not reveal the nature of the content being browsed by the staff. A council spokesman said the action was taken following disciplinary hearings. All of the 14 staff are to appeal the decisions. The spokesman added: "Like many organisations, the council has a clear policy on the use of internet and e-mail which states that access can be monitored to ensure appropriate use. "If breaches of that policy are identified, disciplinary procedures can be taken forward." The staff were told of the action on Monday night, following council monitoring of internet use. I was once given a telling off when my manager checked my web history - try telling him what 'Cutecats.com and Catscatscats.com' have got to do with software testing.... I couldn't bluff my way out of that one!

I got a warning at my last job and was disconnected from the LAN for a few days as punishment, with no customer support coming from me via email it miraculously got switched back on again with no blocked ports either

 Sounds about right! I'm constantly amazed by how little common sense some of the managers I've worked for had! I once heard a very senior manager (21 years old) talking about lactose intolerance and his exact words were:
'What? does butter have milk in it then?' must... control... fist... of... death...
