Authorities in Vietnam have said they were searching for disgraced pop star Gary Glitter to investigate his alleged relationship with a teenager.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung said officials had confirmed that Glitter, 61, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was residing in a home in southern Vung Tau city.

The former glam rocker had applied for permanent resident status in Vietnam.

Glitter, who rose to fame in the 1970s, was convicted in Britain in 1999 for possessing child pornography.

He was permanently expelled from Cambodia in 2002.

Dung said Glitter had left the house on November 12, and police were seeking his whereabouts.

Dung said authorities had conducted interviews with a 15-year-old girl who they found in the home rented by Glitter.

"If evidence of a (legal) violation is found against Mr. Paul Francis (Gadd), and especially evidence of sexual child abuse, I believe that very strict legal measures will apply to him," he said.

He has shown no remorse whatsoever. He clearly has no intention of altering his behaviour he simply has the financial resources to travel to country after country where he can carry on his vile behaviour as per usual in relative anonymity.

Let's pray that he is extradited and locked up permanently because he's obviously a danger to children and has shown no signs of remorse and no signs of wanting to change his behaviour.

Where will he turn up next? I'm guessing Thailand. While he isn't locked up then children are going to be abused. Fact. :8o:

Former glam rock star Gary Glitter has been arrested in Vietnam where police want to question him about alleged child sex offences.

The 61-year-old was detained at Ho Chi Minh airport as he tried to board a plane to Bangkok.

An immigration official recognised his name from a newspaper article, state-controlled media reported.

A newspaper reported that police were investigating Glitter over allegations of "obscene acts with a child".

Police said Glitter was allegedly involved with two girls under the age of 18, but declined to elaborate.

Glitter was held on Saturday and taken back to the Ba-Ria Vung Tau province where he had been living.

Reports suggest the singer, real name Paul Francis Gadd, fled his rented home there a week ago.

The seventies rock star, best known for hit single Rock and Roll (Part 2), has been living in Vung Tau since March 2005.

Jail penalty

Ministry spokesman Le Dung said authorities had interviewed a 15-year-old girl whom they found in Glitter's home, and a police manhunt for the rock star had reportedly been extended to the Vietnamese city Ho Chi Minh City.

"If evidence of a (legal) violation is found against Mr. Paul Francis, and especially evidence of sexual child abuse, I believe that very strict legal measures will apply to him," said Mr Le Dung.

Under Vietnamese law, the charge of obscene acts with a minor carries a penalty of one to five years in jail.

Earlier this week, the Foreign Ministry said officials had confirmed that Glitter had applied for permanent resident status in Vietnam.

Glitter was expelled from Cambodia in 2002, although no specific reason was given for his deportation.

He was convicted in the UK in 1999 of possessing child pornography and served two months in jail.

I fecking knew it!!! :8o: :8o: :8o:

I don't agree with the death penalty but if it was either that or freedom then I'd make an exception. The fecker is a danger to children and while he's got the opportunity to do so then children WILL be abused.

Well done to the Vietnamise guy who recognised his name and had him arrested. Imo the only logical options are a life-sentence or monitoring combined with chemical castration. He's not shown any intention to be 'rehabilitated' so he no longer deserves that option.

Pathetic f*cking loser!

Dirty little perv.

How can you look at a child in that way???? Its way beyond me.

How can you sexualise a child? Its as alien to me as sexualising a goat or a dog.

That comment (to me at least) is the best one I have read this year.

Children are NOT sexual creatures and normal adults know that! I HATE it when I see female toddlers wearing a bikini, I always think, why are they wearing something to cover something that does not exist. in fact they don't have breasts? That's just fuel for perves bcz it implies that they have breasts  I'd rather see a toddler naked or wearing just pants bcz it is more innocent than the nasty suggestion of implying that a child has sexuality!

HANOI, Vietnam (Reuters) -- Vietnamese police want to talk to Gary Glitter about reports the shamed British glam rocker was seen with girls as young as 15 at a villa he rented, a government spokesman said on Thursday.

The communist southeast Asian nation's official Thanh Nien youth newspaper quoted neighbors in the southern resort town of Vung Tau as saying Glitter -- whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd -- had taken home several girls aged 15 or under.

Residents of the picturesque tourist town on the mouth of the Saigon River had also complained about his singing, the paper said.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung told Reuters police wanted to question the 61-year-old rocker about the allegations, which first surfaced in the British tabloid press.

"If we have evidence of child sexual violation, very strict legal measures would be applied," Dung said, adding that Glitter had since disappeared.

The age of consent in Vietnam is 16, and sex with minors is punishable by up to 12 years in jail.

Glitter was sentenced to four months in jail in Britain in 1999 after being found guilty of storing more than 4,000 images of child pornography on the hard drive of his computer.

After his release, he left Britain for Cuba and then later turned up in Phnom Penh.

Child rights activists managed to get him hounded out of Cambodia twice and have his name put on an entry blacklist, although Glitter filed lawsuits last year fighting the deportation orders.

Thanh Nien reported Glitter had been in Vietnam for about a year.

If he had just kept it to pics on his PC we might have just forgotten about him, we might have just decided he never existed. After being caught out he pushed the boundries too far. What a f***ing pathetic excuse for a human being.

We could do with the firing squad over here for the t**ts such as Huntley, Whiting etc.

Seriously, who would oppose that? The stupid lilly livered, wooly lefties complaining of 'human rights'.
