I do hope he gets better. He was simply one of the greatest sportsmen ever.

BUT....its hard to feel much sympathy for him after the way he has carried on drinking with the new liver. This liver was a gift of life for him and he has abused this priveledge. What if someone else has died because they didnt get that transplant?

A person died before he could have that liver, and that family must feel betrayed, if they know.

Oh God I know! :-( I've lost 2 close friends to liver cancer and neither or them drank alcohol or were offered a liver transplant. At first I was furious that GB was offered a transplant when they weren't but someone said to me that it's not his celebrity status but if there is a liver available at that time.

Of course I hope he will survive but like you I'm angry that he carried on drinking after that second chance. I have personal experience of the disease of alcoholism so I should be more understanding but I find it upsetting that he's not tried harder to quit the drink - given the motivation of 1 - he's a father and 2 - somebody else didn't get that transplant so he's very lucky to have been given the chance to turn his life around...

The death watch outside the hospital by the media is pretty gross, as he got better a couple of weeks ago most of them buggered off!

I hate to sound disrespectful to him but he has brought all this on himself.
But I think it's a shame that there was no one to guide him through the celeb status he earned when he was playing. Just dont buy him a 2006 diary, I cant see him lasting until Christmas :-?

are we sure that his current illness problems are medically based on drinking on the new liver?

That is very true Morrisey but once he 'Retired' he changed and didn't seem to be able to cope with not playing.

Ok Jim I will. I'm very shocked tho. BRB.

What is it with football players and drinking, promiscuity and violence? If I was that young with loads of money, fame and a sporting passion I wouldn't want to mess it up by behaving so badly.... :-?

I'm away now to google Mr.Best! :D

The guy needed BIG help and never got it. As said, his problems were more than booze even though they all stemmed from it.
