It's just been announced on ITV news that soccer star George Best has died.

Although self inflicted, he was a great soccer legend in his day.

At least he can be at peace now, and have no more suffering.

well I feel very sad for his family - losing a loved one is painful regardless of the circumstances..... but can't help feeling a bit relieved that the media circus surrounding his illness is over.

I was out at Tesco at lunchtime and on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2, all these 'famous' people were paying tributes to him, and I thought he had actually died already. On further listening, I realised that wasn't the case, and they were still talking about him being very ill in hospital. I really thought it was a bit much and in poor taste.

He led a full life and lived it how HE wanted to,even if he was on self destruct for years

shame he wont be remembered as much for his footie as he will be, for his drinking, I still cringe, thinking about when he was on Wogan once, totally blaggered, but I couldnt help feeling endeared to him

Even though it's been inevitable now for a few days, it still felt strangely shocking when the news finally came in..I don't know why. Can't help but feel very sad, just been viewing the tributes on bbc.

Donating, what works, of his organs is his last redeeming moment. I want to know how much of that liver he got is still working. I'm sure the family of his donor wish it would go too a better home if it's still ok.

I'm sure Sammy McIlroy will continue his one man domination of our TV screens for the next 24 hours.
